My 4 year hair growth

Maybe if I had some strict hair care regimen, I’d be boasting of longer strands now.

But the concept was to create products that work for busy women; women who do not have 2 hours (or more) to spare for hair care day, but still desire healthy hair.

First time I embraced natural hair journey was in 2016, chopped off my processed hair willingly but a lil scared. I’d tested my products on Annie’s hair.

Anita was born with beautiful, full hair but  for reasons I can’t lay my hands upon, she experienced alopecia and all her strands just seemed to fall off, leaving giant bald patches. There was no hair to pack or weave for her 1st birthday, and I remember some friends making mean comments about it.

I spared no cost in trying to resolve her hair issues; I ordered products from UK and US because I wanted to go all out for the best possible products. By this time, I’d forgotten about my 2009 experiments…being thrown into a whole new world (marriage/ childbearing) does that to us.

The products did not work.

And then I had an epiphany…everything that every man needs exist in their local environment. Going miles away to seek solutions that work for whites probably was a wrong move.

Next, I remembered the trainings I’d had in the UK about organic products, essential oils and their uses, and how it led to my series of experiments. I picked up my notes and I started to formulate a solution for my daughter’s condition.

It worked.

In less than a year, we went from being mocked, to getting amazing reviews about her hair.

And this gave me some confidence to embark on my natural hair journey. Although i had concerns, i chopped my hair off anyway, because i needed to confirm that the product would work on adults as well.

At this point, i wasnt considering going professional with the products, and I had concerns that my gene probably wouldn’t support hair growth no matter what I did (I am African, we were told for the longest time that hair growth is practically a miracle; in fact at some point, I was told that our hair stops growing at a particular age).

Anita’s hair post-alopecia

3 years down the line, I had lenght I couldn’t boast of in all the years I’d kept my permed hair. I loved the hair and rocked it loudly 😉
But then I had my 2nd big chop in 2019.

If there was something I learnt and loved during my first period of going natural with organic products, it’s the obvious health of the hair.

Around this period, my second child experienced the same hair loss as did the first; but his own did not deteriorate so badly, because we were already armed with a solution.

Anthony’s hair at this point was growing so fast that we had to discontinue the product usage
Now, intermittently, we grow his hair with Kykinkz, especially when barbers damage his hair

After my 2nd big chop in 2019, I stayed on low cut till around mid-2020.

I’ve not done anything out of the ordinary to my hair. Even days when it’s only the herbal shampoo I use (e.g not having enough time to condition immediately), I realized there’s enough oils and herbs in the shampoo, to keep the hair nourished for a few days (till I remember to groom it properly). And sometimes, I intentionally just shampoo and leave my hair in twists, just to identify what problems would arise. My hair wouldn’t begin to dry out until after a few days, and it would remain soft to touch (prior Kykinkz, my hair was terribly tough. Even with relaxers, I would only be able to get a comb through my hair in the first few days. From day 5, it would be a war to comb out my hair.

My 4 year growth

It’s my fourth year post 2nd big chop (since 2020), and I’m glad that Kykinkz has not disappointed myself or my clients thus far.

Kykinkz set

Kykinkz first surfaced around 2009 when I merely experimented with organic ingredients and essential oils, and then had my friends try them out.
We launched out professionally in 2016, after successfully tackling Anthony’s and Annie’s alopecia, grow my hair twice,  a couple of other kids, and adult clients.

I know how beautiful and powerful, healthy hair can make women feel; and I am glad to have been a part of many women’s ’empowerment’ journey over the years.
